5 day workshop

An atmosphere of experimentation and communication will be fostered as you gradually develop your work through the processes of building layers, reduction techniques, and collage via demonstrations and informal discussions.

This information-packed hands-on workshop will include many aspects of cold wax painting. The workshop is designed for all levels and those wishing to expand their creative repertoire. If you are currently working with acrylics, watercolour, encaustic paints, oil paints or just wanting to try something new, then this is the workshop for you.

Cheryl McGannon is a highly skilled instructor. Cheryl will guide you through this five-day intensive, creative workshop. You will have fun while being introduced to new techniques that will enhance your current art practice. Plenty of time will be available to paint, take notes and experiment with new techniques. There will be presentations on abstraction and design. This workshop could take your artwork to the next level!

What also makes this workshop very special is that it will allow you to take advantage of being in Barcelona, one of the most artistic, cultural and beautiful cities in the world. You will be inspired each day by visiting some of the many great galleries and museums, as well as visiting some of the famous Gaudi’s architecture buildings. Maria Fernandez will be your guide. As an example, she will take you to see some of the Catalan Masters like Picasso, Miro, Tapies, and visit some of the contemporary art museums like the MACBA and the latest jewel in town, the Museum of Catalan contemporary art Can Framis. Visits to these exciting cultural venues are included as at no extra charge.

To complete this special experience, we will organise a farewell evening with an exhibition at Studio 42 Gallery where all participants will be able to showcase their selected artwork produced during the workshop.

Workshop Fees and Registration

Full fees for a 5 day workshop: 800€. A deposit of 150€ by 15 June 2019 is required to secure your place

Early Bird Registration before 15th June with full payment of 700€ (100€ discount)

All payment via PayPal or Bank Transfer

A follow up email will confirm your registration when payment is completed.

Enrolments will be limited. We therefore encourage you to register as soon as possible. Workshop deposits are fully refundable less a cancellation fee of 50€ per person up to 4 weeks prior to the workshop starting date. Final payment is due in full by 25th August, 4 weeks before the workshop start date, and in case of cancellation by the participant, is non-refundable. If for any reason, a workshop must be cancelled, you will be notified, and your full deposit and tuition will be refunded in full.

Some materials including high quality paper, cold wax medium, solvents, specific tools for cold wax medium like spatulas, squeegees, brayers, and some oil paint and pigments
5 morning teas
Tours to three Museums and Galleries (after workshop hours)

What should the participants bring to the workshop?

Students should only bring their apron, some of their favourite oil paints and a notebook and pen/pencil.
An expectation to have a very rewarding and fun experience!
